A decision matrix is designed to assist you in reaching a decision between 2 or 3 options, for example, different job offers/opportunities. It involves you deciding what the 4-5 key issues are for you in making the decision (see attachment for some suggestions) and then giving each of those issues a weighting (between 1 and 5) as to how important they are to you. Then look at each of the options and rate them relative to each of the issues you have listed (ie., how does that option rate relative to that issue), which is called a raw score. The model will then multiply the issue weighting with each option’s raw score to give you a total for each option. The totals will then enable you to rank the options.
