Resúme Tips

Style: A standard, professional style is preferable. However, your resume needs to be appropriate to the person and position applied for. A marketing role, for example, may require a more creative style.

Format: Use fonts that are easy to read, such as Arial. Try not to use small fonts or crowd text.

  • List your personal information on the front page. Also it is a good idea to use a header or footer with your name and phone number on each page, in the event that they are separated. It also reiterates your name to the recruiter and client.
  • Make a list of transferable skills.
  • For ease of reading consider creating a table displaying at a glance your employment history.
  • Start with your most recent role. Outline briefly your current company before outlining your role. Include information about the company, its location, size, number of employees, turnover and an outline on the type of industry, key products/services.
  • Outline your responsibilities and key achievements made in each role. Ensure these are as specific and measurable as possible. Include people management (numbers reporting directly and indirectly to you), budgets, and dollar values.

Finally, check and double check your resume for spelling and grammatical errors! This is your first impression to a potential employer.
